  2. Prepare 1/4 cup sugar

Thanks to a genius shortcut, this rich beverage will be ready to enjoy in a fraction of the time as traditional horchata. It's light and refreshing on a hot Southern summer day served over ice, but we tend to prefer it hot with a splash of bourbon. Horchata is a sweet Mexican drink made from rice.

Instructions to make Horchata:
  1. Heat water, sugar, and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat
  2. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved (it might take a few minutes.)
  3. Remove mixture from heat and allow to cool.
  4. Pour rice milk into a pitcher, or any container that is large enough to hold 1 quart and 1/3 cup of liquid
  5. Pour the sugar/water/cinnamon mixture into the rice milk and stir
  6. Let chill in the fridge
  7. Tip: Try not to add ice because when the ice melts, it gets pretty watered down
  8. Optional: Add tapioca balls if you want. It makes it taste really good!

Horchata is made by blending white rice and cinnamon sticks in water and letting them soak overnight. After the rice and cinnamon are discarded, the remaining liquid is then flavored with vanilla, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Horchata is often thickened with milk and always served cold. Add the remaining water and blend thoroughly. Horchata is a traditional Mexican drink made up of white rice soaked in water, it's flavored with cinnamon and its sweetened with granulated sugar.
