  1. Prepare 1 small Onion chopped
  2. Get 1/2 cup masoor dhal
  3. Make ready 4 tablespoon rava
  4. Take 2 teaspoon Curd
  5. Prepare as needed Water to make batter
  6. Get 2 Green chillies or as per your taste
  7. Get to taste Salt
  8. Get 1 handful Curry leaves
  9. Get 1-2 pinch Hing /asafoetida

You can even use a pastry brush and brush the oil evenly. Pour that batter in each hole and cover the pan for the paniyaram / appe to cook evenly. It is prepared in a special pan with several round cavities called Paniyaram Pan/ Aebleskiver Pan or Appam Patra. As they are non fried and cook with very less oil, it is healthy.

Steps to make Masoor Dhal Paniyaram(appe):
  1. First soak the yellow masoor dhal for 4 hours then grind into fine paste with little salt transfer to a bowl and add rava curds and mix. Well with water to make a batter.
  2. Add salt chopped onions green chilli mix.
  3. Then add curry leaves and mix well.Let it rest for half hour.
  4. Now add oil to the appam mould and pour the batter into it and close with the lid. Half teaspoon oil will do for each appam, you can eat less oil this way as we close and cook it. Flip and cook on the other side and then serve with sauce when done. It’s nice even without tadka.

Grind soaked daal to make a thicker batter. Add salt, red chilli powder, garam masala/all spice mix, Cumin and Carom seeds, asafoetida/hing powder, chopped green chillies, mint leaves and coriander leaves. If you have intended to prepare Moong dal paniyaram on Monday soak it on Sunday morning. Keep the pan with a tsp of oil,once it is heated crackle the mustard seeds,urad dhal. Add the curry leaves,asafoetida,and saute the onions till transparent.
