Take the omelet out from the pan when it's still hot. Put the omelet on top of a bamboo mat and roll it.   3. Heat the oil and pour mixture in a frying pan. Cover and cook over low heat for 10-15 minutes. When the bottom is cooked brown, cook the other side.
  4. Spread step3 over a makisu.
  5. Roll the omlet while it's hot.
  6. Let it sit and cool until firm. Cut it into thick slices. It's done and enjoy!

Heat the vegetable oil in a fry pan and pour out excess once hot. Flip over and fry for an additional minute. Swirl the pan, ensuring the entire bottom is covered, including around and underneath the first roll. Roll up from the side containing the first roll, so that is now at the center. It's very similar to regular Tamagoyaki (sweet rolled egg) but it has an extra little ingredient, Hanpen, which is a fish cake made from white fish and other ingredients, and gives the Datemaki a different and fluffier texture than Tamagoyaki.
