  2. Take 1 cup Wheat flour
  3. Prepare 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder

The batter made out of rice flour, wheat flour, jaggery & ripe banana puree, flavoured with few pinches of cardamoms is poured into a mould called "Appe Pan" in which ghee is heated & fried until deep brown. Banana appam is prepared by deep frying a batter prepared with sweetened ripe banana along with wheat flour and jaggery. It is then deep fried and served immediately as a yummy snack. The same can also be prepared in the appe pan/panniyaram pan for a healthier version.

Steps to make Banana Appam / Banana Paniyaram:
  1. Grind ripe bananas, jaggery and cardamom powder.
  2. Now add wheat flour and salt.
  3. Combine all the ingredients well.
  4. Start dropping them one by one to hot oil.
  5. Keep the flame in medium and stir occasionally.
  6. Fry the appam till they turn dark golden brown.
  7. Drain off the appam on to kitchen towel to absorb oil.

This is a perfect after school snack for kids. Now lets see how to prepare. Take banana in a blender and puree till smooth. Take all ingredients in a bowl and mix well to a thick batter. Heat oil for deep frying, drop small spoonful of batter in and fry till golden brown. firstly, adding the banana to the batter will enhance the flavour. also, use short grain rice sona masuri rice to prepare neyyappam batter. additionally, baking soda can be skipped by fermenting batter overnight. finally, unniyappam / neyyappam recipe tastes great when prepared with fresh homemade ghee.
