The ingredients needed to make Kuzhi Coconut Paniyaram:
- Take 3 cups Idli batter
- Prepare to taste Salt
- Take 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- Get 1 tsp Red chilli flakes
- Take 1 Onion chopped
- Make ready 5-6 tbsp Coconut powder
- Get 2 - 3 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
- Make ready 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Make ready 2 tsp Sambhar masala
Now add the sauted shallots,soaked sago and salt to taste to the idli batter and mix well. Kuzhi paniyaram (Tamil: குழி பணியாரம்) is Chettinad special cusine made by steaming batter using a mould (Paniyarakkal in Tamil). This recipe is about making Paniyaram using left over Idli Batter. We can enrich that batter with grated coconut, carrot, onion along with spicy tempering.
Steps to make Kuzhi Coconut Paniyaram:
- In a bowl add idli batter, salt, red chilli powder, red chilli flakes, onion, mustard seeds, coconut powder, sambhar masala and coriander leaves. Mix well.
- Heat paniyaram pan. Add little oil in each hole. Add spoonful of batter in each hole. Cover and cook on low flame for few mins or till bottom turns golden.
- Flip the side again cover and cook for 2-3 min. Open the lid and turn the flame on high. Cook for 2-3 min or till golden & properly cooked. Switch off the flame.
- Place kazhi paniyaram in plates and serve hot with sambhar.
Kuzhi paniyaram is usually prepared with left-over idly or dosa batter which has both sweet and spicy versions. I prefer to use aapam batter for making kuzhi paniyaram as they outcome super soft paniyarams. The recipe here is a sweet versioned dumpling made with 'Dates-Coconut' mixture as a filling. You would get a 'paniyaram cum kozukattai. Paniyaram Recipe - Kuzhi paniyaram are ball shaped dumplings made with fermented urad dal and rice batter.
