- Make ready 1 cup barley
- Make ready 3 cups water
- Prepare 1 tablespoon powdered chicken stock
- Make ready 1 small onion
- Take 2 teaspoons crushed garlic
- Make ready 60 grams shitake mushrooms
- Get 4 sage leaves (1 teaspoon if dried)
- Prepare 1/4 lime
- Take 1 tablespoon butter
- Prepare 1 tablespoon soya sauce
Steps to make Barley Pilaf:
- In pot put barley, stock and water bring to boil. Allow to simmer for 25 to 30 minutes until barley tender
- Chop onion, mushrooms and sage.
- In a pan saute onions and garlic in butter, when browned add mushrooms and sage, saute till brown
- Add soya sauce and lime, stir till all brown bits removed from bottom of pan.
- Drain barley and add to mushroom mix
- Mix together and serve as a side dish
