The ingredients needed to make Instant Sooji Paniyaram:
- Get 1 cup rava / semolina or sooji
- Take 3/4 cup curds / yogurt
- Get to taste Salt
- Make ready 3/4 cup water
- Take 2 tsp oil
- Take 1 small carrot grated
- Take 1 inch ginger grated
- Take 1 green chilli finely chopped
- Prepare 1 small onion finely chopped
- Take 1 tbsp. coriander leaves finely chopped
- Take 1/2 capsicum finely chopped
- Take 1 pinch baking soda
- Get 5 curry leaves
They can be packed in kids tiffin, served as an evening snack or even in birthday parties. Rava Appe, Rava Paniyaram, or Sooji Appe is an Instant South Indian breakfast dish that is delicious and very easy to make. Here is how to make it. We usually make Paniyaram using Idli batter.
Steps to make Instant Sooji Paniyaram:
- In a mixing bowl combine rava, curd and salt. - Take a whisk and mix well to form a paste without forming any lumps. - Add ¾ th cup water or as required. Mix well to form a thick batter. Set aside.
- In a pan heat 1 tsp oil add the curry leaves once it is hot and saute the ginger, green chilli, onion and capsicum. - Saute for a minute or until the onions start turning golden. Turn off the flame and add the grated carrot and mix. - Transfer the fried vegetables mixture into the ravva batter. - Add 1 tbsp coriander leaves and mix well with the whisk. - Let the batter rest for 20 minutes or until rava is soaked nicely.
- Add a pinch of baking soda to the batter just before preparing appe and mix well. - Heat the paniyaram pan and add few drops of oil inside each disc. - Pour a spoonful of sooji batter in each depression. - Cover with a lid and simmer for a minute or until the appe are done. - Once the base side is golden, flip to the other side with a skewer.
- Let the Instant Ravva Paniyaram or Semolina dumplings simmer further on low heat until they turn golden brown. - Once Instant Ravva Paniyaram or Semolina dumplings is done on both sides, serve instant rava paniyaram with any chutney of your choice. Tomato chutney or coconut chutney goes well. I mixed a tsp of tomato pickle in yoghurt for a different dip.
But what if the batter is not available, then we have an option of using sooji as an alternative and sooji paniyaram is instant without fermenting. Oats Paniyaram is a great snacks / breakfast or for evening tiffen which can be prepared instantly. All we need is oats, sooji and the spices usually available in our kitchen.
